If confidence were a draft strategy, the Raiders would have aced it. Justin Eboigbe at the Round 4 slot is 36 spots clear of where he belonged.
The Newton pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get an island corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ja'Lynn Polk in pick No. 85. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Justin Eboigbe at slot 112 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Isaac Guerendo went about where he belonged in No. 125. The roster fit checks out.
Josh Newton at the 148th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Layden Robinson at Round 5, Pick 20 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid up for Myles Murphy at the Round 6 slot when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Trey Knox in the 229th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dominique Hampton is a better player than slot 246 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
