Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D
ValueC NeedB- TradesF FutureC
The phones sank the Steelers this weekend: D.

Nobody had DeMonte Capehart this high, and it is not close. The Steelers reached 67 spots to get him at the 208th overall pick.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Van Pran pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots still on the board.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Amarius Mims. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick52 Rnd2 Javon Bullard
A reach for Javon Bullard in the Round 2 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick61 Rnd2 Sedrick Van Pran
A want over a need in slot 61: Sedrick Van Pran adds an offensive lineman while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick84 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Value said wait; Khyree Jackson in No. 84 says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick119 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at pick No. 119 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick120 Rnd4 Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
They reached into another round for Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick121 Rnd4 Johnny Dixon
They paid sticker price for Johnny Dixon in pick No. 121, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick198 Rnd6 Daequan Hardy
Daequan Hardy in the 198th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick208 Rnd6 DeMonte Capehart
A wild overpay on DeMonte Capehart in slot 208, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick241 Rnd7 Evan Anderson
Evan Anderson in Round 7, Pick 21 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
