Somebody took the Vikings to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. They banked enough surplus on Jones to cover a lot of smaller sins.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In No. 22 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. A real need, handled.
In slot 27 they get a press-man option on the boundary. Need was not the driver here.
No drama and no debate, Chris Braswell went about where he belonged in pick No. 42. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Junior Colson at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
James Williams slid further than he should have, and pick 129 is lovely value for the safety. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Christian Jones in the 157th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Trevor Keegan in Round 5, Pick 25, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaheim Bell at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Isaiah Davis in the 171st pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It fills a real need, too.
Jarrian Jones at Round 5, Pick 36 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Layden Robinson in pick 177. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good price on Isaiah Williams in slot 188, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Garret Greenfield at No. 230 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 234 with a little surplus value in Tyler Owens. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
