Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA
The Bears cashed the board's mistake on Wilson: B+. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Bears watched Roman Wilson slide 32 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The Milton III reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Stover pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots still on the board.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In No. 6 they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
Pick14
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
In the 14th overall pick they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. slipping to the 39th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick45
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
They paid a round early for Edgerrin Cooper in slot 45, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick47
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul at pick 47 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75
Rnd3
Cade Stover
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went TE-EDGE with Cade Stover while clear needs at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat open.
Pick111
Rnd4
Roman Wilson
They will replay Roman Wilson at Round 4, Pick 11 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick123
Rnd4
James Williams
A premium they did not need to pay, James Williams a notch or two before his time. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick143
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
A real head-scratcher, Joe Milton III in pick 143 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
