Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the 49ers for Jones: B-.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jarrian Jones, the No. 149 name on the board, stolen at the Round 6 slot. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

The Hanson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Pick63 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette in the 63rd pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick94 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany at pick No. 94 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick98 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
They paid sticker price for Leonard Taylor III in the 98th overall pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick125 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea slipping to pick 125 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick132 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at slot 132 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick176 Rnd6 Jarrian Jones
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Jarrian Jones in No. 176, plain and simple. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick209 Rnd6 Tanor Bortolini
A reach on Tanor Bortolini in Round 6, Pick 34; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick214 Rnd6 Nathaniel Watson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Nathaniel Watson in No. 214. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick215 Rnd6 Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at Round 6, Pick 40. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick249 Rnd7 C.J. Hanson
C.J. Hanson at the 249th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
