The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on Carson Beck, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Reaching for Miller left real value on the table behind him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.
On value alone, Davis makes the weekend a net positive. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jay Higgins in slot 39, miles early. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Blake Miller in pick 71 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kyle Monangai in pick No. 103 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They jumped the gun on Jermari Harris, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jalon Walker in the Round 6 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
J.C. Davis in Round 7, Pick 7 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
