Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Packers bled value on every deal, hence the D-. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Packers, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Wright pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Beebe.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In pick No. 13 they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Good price on Xavier Legette in slot 41, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick57
Rnd2
Javon Bullard
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Javon Bullard. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick88
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe is a better player than pick 88 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick91
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
A straight-up fair deal on Bucky Irving at the 91st pick, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick126
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
Nothing to complain about; Jarrian Jones went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jaylen Wright
They went early on Jaylen Wright in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick168
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson in No. 168 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick203
Rnd6
Jordan Magee
Jordan Magee in Round 6, Pick 28 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick216
Rnd6
J.J. Weaver
J.J. Weaver at slot 216 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick243
Rnd7
Dwight McGlothern
A reach for Dwight McGlothern in No. 243; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick251
Rnd7
Tatum Bethune
Tatum Bethune at the 251st pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
