Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Steelers. It is a puzzling start. The Steelers had quarterback, safety and other spots to solve and reached instead for Donovan Jackson, an offensive lineman, at pick 121.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Every board in the league had Hall Jr. lower, and that gap is the story.
Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In slot 16 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value.
Pick48
Rnd2
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jeremiah Trotter Jr.. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick80
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. in the Round 3 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick116
Rnd4
Audric Estime
Audric Estime in pick 116 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick121
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Donovan Jackson at offensive lineman with quarterback, safety and other spots open.
Pick194
Rnd6
Ricky Pearsall
A straight-up fair deal on Ricky Pearsall at the 194th pick, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick237
Rnd7
Kamal Hadden
No edge and no loss on Kamal Hadden in Round 7, Pick 17; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
