GreekGuy DRAFTING FOR THESteelers

Draft Grade — Steelers

FutureB-
The Steelers let Penix Jr. fall and pounced. Final grade: B. You could see the war room lean forward. Michael Penix Jr. at Round 2, Pick 20 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
Taliese Fuaga at the 20th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick52
Rnd2
Michael Penix Jr.
Circle this one: Michael Penix Jr. at pick No. 52 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick84
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson in pick 84 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick119
Rnd4
Max Melton
A quiet steal in Round 4, Pick 19: Max Melton for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick120
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tommy Eichenberg. It fills a real need, too.
Pick198
Rnd6
Cody Schrader
Cody Schrader at No. 198 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick241
Rnd7
Blake Watson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Blake Watson at the 241st overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
