For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Vikings walked out of the weekend still thin at interior defensive lineman, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.
Getting Henderson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes. Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.11
· Pick 11
· Olumuyiwa Fashanu
· OT
· rank 10
In the 11th pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.11
· Pick 43
· Chop Robinson
· DE-EDGE
· rank 38
A reasonable price with a little left over, Chop Robinson in slot 43. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.8
· Pick 108
· Tykee Smith
· S
· rank 98
Tykee Smith in pick 108 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.15
· Pick 115
· Max Melton
· CB
· rank 111
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Max Melton. A minor itch, scratched.
R4.30
· Pick 130
· Tommy Eichenberg
· LB
· rank 125
A tidy little value on Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 130, a step better than break-even. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R5.12
· Pick 148
· Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
· WR
· rank 143
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in Round 5, Pick 12 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.24
· Pick 160
· Keith Randolph Jr.
· DL-EDGE
· rank 150
They read the board right and Keith Randolph Jr. was the payoff at the 160th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.30
· Pick 166
· Chau Smith-Wade
· CB
· rank 158
Chau Smith-Wade at No. 166 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R5.37
· Pick 173
· LaDarius Henderson
· OT
· rank 159
A quiet steal in the Round 5 slot: LaDarius Henderson for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.4
· Pick 179
· Frank Gore Jr.
· RB
· rank 166
The board had Frank Gore Jr. higher than Round 6, Pick 4, and the running back fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.14
· Pick 189
· AJ Barner
· TE
· rank 186
AJ Barner in pick 189 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.10
· Pick 230
· Daequan Hardy
· CB
· rank 217
Daequan Hardy at the 230th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R7.24
· Pick 244
· Kurtis Rourke
· QB
· rank 237
They did well to land Kurtis Rourke in slot 244, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
