FutureA+
The Bears let Pearsall fall into their laps, and walked away with a A-. You build a draft on nights like this. Ricky Pearsall had no business being available in slot 244, and the Bears did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They are betting Eboigbe proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The phones were where this weekend was really won. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Olumuyiwa Fashanu and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In slot 11 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value.
Pick43
Rnd2
Kris Abrams-Draine
A tidy little value on Kris Abrams-Draine in the 43rd overall pick, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick92
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Nothing to complain about; Christian Mahogany went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick114
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at Round 4, Pick 14 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick147
Rnd5
Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea at pick No. 147 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick188
Rnd6
Willie Roberts
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Willie Roberts. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick231
Rnd7
Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick235
Rnd7
Steele Chambers
Steele Chambers in the 235th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick244
Rnd7
Ricky Pearsall
The board fumbled Ricky Pearsall all the way to the 244th pick, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
