Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureD+
A passer of the future in McCarthy, and a B-, for the Bears. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Kool-Aid McKinstry got past him. The Bears do not have to explain a thing at the 93rd overall pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
J.J. McCarthy is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The cost of the Smith reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
J.J. McCarthy
In pick 9 they get their quarterback of the future, even if it was a touch early.
Pick75
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. at No. 75 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick76
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
They took Calen Bullock at par in slot 76, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick93
Rnd3
Kool-Aid McKinstry
The board fumbled Kool-Aid McKinstry all the way to pick No. 93, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick113
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen at the Round 4 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick122
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
Ainias Smith in pick 122 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
