The Raiders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Le'Veon Moss fell into slot 215.
Cam Ward is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The cost of the Morrison reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Omarion Hampton in Round 2, Pick 14 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
DJ Campbell in pick No. 67 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Xavier Watts at slot 77 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Somehow Smael Mondon Jr. was still sitting there in the 106th pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ricky White III this early at Round 5, Pick 4. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Benjamin Morrison at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Le'Veon Moss in the 215th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
