Las Vegas Raiders

A solid, sensible weekend for the Raiders: B-.

The war room fell hard for Zy Alexander, and it showed at Round 6, Pick 31: 23 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.

The McCoy value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.14 · Pick 14 · Taliese Fuaga · OT · rank 25
A premium they did not need to pay, Taliese Fuaga a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R2.14 · Pick 46 · Kris Jenkins · DL-EDGE · rank 52
Kris Jenkins in slot 46 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Danny Stutsman · LB · rank 102
They went early on Danny Stutsman in the 88th pick, and the value did not follow. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R4.14 · Pick 114 · Jason Marshall Jr. · CB · rank 112
By-the-book stuff, Jason Marshall Jr. at the 114th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.29 · Pick 165 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 165
No drama and no debate, Will Shipley went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.17 · Pick 192 · Jalon Daniels · QB · rank 196
Jalon Daniels at pick 192 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.24 · Pick 199 · Brandon Coleman · OL · rank 209
Brandon Coleman in Round 6, Pick 24 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.31 · Pick 206 · Zy Alexander · CB · rank 229
Zy Alexander in No. 206 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.32 · Pick 207 · Bru McCoy · WR · rank 190
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Bru McCoy in slot 207. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.15 · Pick 235 · Brian Ugwu · DL-EDGE · rank 246
A reach for Brian Ugwu in the 235th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
