The war room fell hard for Zy Alexander, and it showed at Round 6, Pick 31: 23 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
The McCoy value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
A premium they did not need to pay, Taliese Fuaga a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kris Jenkins in slot 46 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They went early on Danny Stutsman in the 88th pick, and the value did not follow. It adds depth where they could use a little.
By-the-book stuff, Jason Marshall Jr. at the 114th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Will Shipley went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jalon Daniels at pick 192 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Brandon Coleman in Round 6, Pick 24 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Zy Alexander in No. 206 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Bru McCoy in slot 207. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach for Brian Ugwu in the 235th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
