The Eagles spent real capital to be 27 picks early on Trey Knox, and the board is going to hold them to it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Wilson.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get a premier pass rusher at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Xavier Worthy at Round 2, Pick 18 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A quiet steal in the Round 2 slot: Payton Wilson for less than the market said. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Zak Zinter in the 97th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Malik Mustapha in pick No. 160 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
Luke McCaffrey in pick 171 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached a country mile for Trey Knox at the 210th pick, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
