Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Carson Steele at the Round 6 slot is 34 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
They banked enough surplus on White to cover a lot of smaller sins. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
T'Vondre Sweat in slot 32 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
A reasonable price with a little left over, T.J. Tampa in the 46th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Amarius Mims in pick No. 52, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Danny Stutsman in pick 78 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
James Williams at the 114th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No edge and no loss on Connor Colby in Round 4, Pick 20; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A big swing on Cam Hart at the 151st pick, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached a country mile for Bryce Foster at Round 5, Pick 21, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A real head-scratcher, Carson Steele in No. 192 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid up for Fentrell Cypress II at the Round 7 slot when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Ricky White at pick 254 is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
