Boards are made to be trusted, and the Raiders shredded theirs for Jarquez Hunter. He came off 79 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
It is not that Bowman Jr. is a bad player; it is that the Raiders had louder needs to answer first. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 7 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They reached a country mile for Drew Allar at the 39th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They bypassed pressing needs at cornerback, wide receiver and other spots to take Billy Bowman Jr., a defensive back that was not the priority.
Josaiah Stewart at the 103rd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Karene Reid in pick No. 135, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Xavier Truss in the Round 6 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jarquez Hunter at the 199th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
