After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Michael Penix Jr. is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It lands right in the middle: a C+, no more, no less.
They will need Anderson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 10 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Cam Hart at No. 77 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Roger Rosengarten at the 112th pick, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Layden Robinson in slot 148, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick 208 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A wild overpay on Jowon Briggs in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached into another round for Evan Anderson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
