The one they had to fix is still broken. The Raiders left wide receiver untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul.
The McClellan steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Reaching for Smith-Wade left real value on the table behind him. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line. The biggest hole, addressed.
J.J. McCarthy in Round 2, Pick 12 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Cooper Beebe at the 77th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They went early on Darius Robinson in pick 112, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A premium they did not need to pay, Chau Smith-Wade a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Christian Jones at pick No. 190 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They let Jase McClellan come to them and pounced at the 234th pick. It fills a real need, too.
