You build a draft on nights like this. Harold Perkins Jr. had no business being available in pick No. 212, and the Raiders did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Reaching for Lacy left real value on the table behind him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
The Starks pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, cornerback and other spots.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an every-down engine for the run game at fair value. A real need, handled.
They jumped the gun on Jalen Milroe, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Malachi Moore in pick 69, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, cornerback and other spots to take Malaki Starks, a safety that was not the priority.
Dylan Fairchild in the 105th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value with a capital V on Jalen Catalon in No. 141, a genuine coup. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They reached into another round for Kyren Lacy, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Harold Perkins Jr. at Round 6, Pick 37 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Shilo Sanders at the 214th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Steal is underselling it; Jared Wilson at slot 224 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
