Call it larceny. Terrion Arnold sat on the board until the Round 2 slot, and the Raiders did not need to be asked twice. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. They are betting Gore Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 13 they get a ballhawk on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They will replay Terrion Arnold at the Round 2 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Xavier Legette in pick No. 77. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No edge and no loss on Matt Goncalves in the 113th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They read the board right and Michael Pratt was the payoff at the 147th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
They jumped the gun on Frank Gore Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reach for Javontae Jean-Baptiste in Round 7, Pick 1; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy little value on Tanner McLachlan in No. 225, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
