Nobody had Armand Membou this high, and it is not close. The Raiders reached 30 spots to get him at the 167th pick. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
They have staked the next five years on Carson Beck, which is the only story that really matters here. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Walter Nolen. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Barrett Carter in pick 39 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
By-the-book stuff, Josh Conerly Jr. at Round 2, Pick 20 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They talked themselves into Clay Webb at No. 71, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jasheen Davis well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Maxwell Hairston in Round 5, Pick 7, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A real head-scratcher, Armand Membou in slot 167 is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach for Jarquez Hunter in pick 199; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
