This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Elijah Jones, the No. 193 name on the board, stolen at pick No. 225. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The Arik Armstead deal gives the class an established piece to lean on. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st overall pick they get a building block for the line, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kamari Lassiter in Round 2, Pick 12. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nothing to complain about; Xavier Legette went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Mekhi Wingo at par in pick 113, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Marist Liufau in No. 147; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid sticker price for Josh Proctor in pick No. 210, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Tanner McLachlan at slot 221 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for Elijah Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Garret Greenfield in pick 227, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
