Nobody else had Garrett Nussmeier anywhere near slot 7. The Raiders did, by 55 spots, and that gap is the whole story. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Everything downstream of Garrett Nussmeier depends on Garrett Nussmeier, and the building knows it. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
There is no spinning it; the board won this weekend going away.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 7 they get their guy under center for the next decade, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Walter Nolen in No. 39, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Donovan Jackson. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached a country mile for Jasheen Davis at Round 4, Pick 7, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Davison Igbinosun at par in the 135th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Jonah Coleman in No. 167; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Lander Barton in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
