The Raiders put a flag in the ground for Zy Alexander, 86 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Carson Beck gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Carson Beck in pick No. 7, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
In pick 17 they get an anchor for the offensive line, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
No edge and no loss on Walter Nolen in the 39th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Clay Webb at slot 71 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach on Keon Sabb in Round 3, Pick 17; the board had better options right there. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jasheen Davis. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They talked themselves into Zy Alexander at the 135th overall pick, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
CJ Daniels in No. 167 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wild overpay on Lander Barton in pick 199, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
