kman49er DRAFTING FOR THE49ers

Grand theft in pick 252: the 49ers steal Slovis and grade out a B-. The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Kedon Slovis, the 252nd pick, roughly 20 picks past where he belonged. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
It is not that Abrams-Draine is a bad player; it is that the 49ers had louder needs to answer first. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Every board in the league had Guyton lower, and that gap is the story.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Tyler Guyton
In slot 31 they get a building block for the line, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63
Rnd2
Caelen Carson
Caelen Carson at Round 2, Pick 31 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick94
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A straight-up fair deal on Zak Zinter at pick 94, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick98
Rnd3
Tykee Smith
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tykee Smith. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick131
Rnd4
Kris Abrams-Draine
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman and edge rusher still to address, they spent the 131st overall pick on Kris Abrams-Draine, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick177
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
Fair-plus on Jaylan Ford, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick209
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark at pick No. 209 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick213
Rnd6
Jalen Berger
A slide stopped in the 213th pick, with Jalen Berger worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick215
Rnd6
Brevyn Spann-Ford
They paid sticker price for Brevyn Spann-Ford in the 215th overall pick, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick252
Rnd7
Kedon Slovis
Kedon Slovis in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
