Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
Williams is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: D-.

The Erick All selection is the head-turner. The Bears reached 42 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Caleb Williams gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.

A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. On value alone, Cypress II makes the weekend a net positive.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In pick No. 1 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
No edge and no loss on Rome Odunze in Round 1, Pick 9; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick21 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In the 21st pick they get a problem off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick75 Rnd3 Javon Bullard
A reasonable price with a little left over, Javon Bullard in pick 75. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick110 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher in the 110th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick127 Rnd4 Malik Washington
Malik Washington at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick146 Rnd5 Drake Nugent
They paid sticker price for Drake Nugent in pick 146, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick186 Rnd6 Erick All
Value said wait; Erick All in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick232 Rnd7 Fentrell Cypress II
Fentrell Cypress II at slot 232 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
