There is reaching, and then there is Kimani Vidal at pick 218. The Eagles jumped the board by 35 and dared it to prove them wrong. Too much went sideways, and the D+ is the honest tally.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.22
· Pick 22
· Terrion Arnold
· CB
· rank 18
In pick No. 22 they get a sticky cover corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.18
· Pick 50
· Edgerrin Cooper
· LB
· rank 49
No drama and no debate, Edgerrin Cooper went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R2.21
· Pick 53
· Xavier Worthy
· WR
· rank 55
No edge and no loss on Xavier Worthy in the 53rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.10
· Pick 74
· Kamren Kinchens
· S
· rank 64
Kamren Kinchens slid further than he should have, and No. 74 is lovely value for the safety. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.9
· Pick 109
· Javon Foster
· OT
· rank 120
They jumped the gun on Javon Foster, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.20
· Pick 120
· Ben Sinnott
· TE
· rank 130
Ben Sinnott in the 120th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.25
· Pick 161
· Khristian Boyd
· DL-EDGE
· rank 178
They paid up for Khristian Boyd at the 161st pick when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.35
· Pick 171
· Malik Mustapha
· S
· rank 170
Malik Mustapha at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.35
· Pick 210
· Jaylan Ford
· LB
· rank 205
A tidy little value on Jaylan Ford in Round 6, Pick 35, a step better than break-even. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R6.43
· Pick 218
· Kimani Vidal
· RB
· rank 253
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kimani Vidal well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
