You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Eagles did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
Reaching for Jacobs left real value on the table behind him. The Eagles indulged a want in Solomon while a need in interior defensive lineman and quarterback stayed open. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
The Edwards pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 23 they get an island corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in pick 50, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They liked Kamren Kinchens enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 2, Pick 21. A need, and now a little less of one.
A slide stopped in No. 93, with Blake Corum worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy little value on Dominick Puni in the 95th pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose OLB-EDGE. Javon Solomon in the 113th overall pick leaves interior defensive lineman and quarterback for later.
Theo Johnson at pick No. 120 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Jones at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Beau Brade at Round 4, Pick 30 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
The board had cheaper options than Justin Eboigbe at the 132nd overall pick, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Trevor Keegan in pick 140 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
They robbed the room for Kalen King here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A premium they did not need to pay, Tanor Bortolini a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Curtis Jacobs in No. 172 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Circle this one: Daijun Edwards at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ryan Flournoy in slot 225 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
