The war room fell hard for Joe Milton III, and it showed at Round 5, Pick 35: 45 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. The final tally is a middling C.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. On value alone, McGlothern makes the weekend a net positive.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 8 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Hit on Xavier Legette and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Legette at pick No. 50 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Chris Braswell in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Javon Bullard in pick 53 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Abrams-Draine at slot 84, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Javon Foster at No. 120 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Isaiah Davis in the 161st pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
Joe Milton III at pick No. 171 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Khristian Boyd in the 172nd pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tanner McLachlan in Round 6, Pick 6, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They talked themselves into Nathaniel Watson at slot 185, and the board did not agree. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Dwight McGlothern in No. 210 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A wild overpay on Charles Turner III in pick 220, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in the 225th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A big swing on Drake Nugent at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kendall Milton at slot 253 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
