Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Eagles, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. The warnings were there, and the F is the bill.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Reaching for Thomas left real value on the table behind him.
Wright falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left interior defensive lineman open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick No. 32 they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kris Jenkins at Round 2, Pick 13 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 50th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jonathon Brooks in pick 64 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in slot 72, where Javon Bullard graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on DJ James in Round 4, Pick 12; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Jaheim Bell at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Javion Cohen in pick No. 144, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
They paid a round early for Chau Smith-Wade in pick 149, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, Joe Milton III went about where he belonged in the 158th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reach on Nathan Thomas in the 160th overall pick; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A conviction pick on Curtis Jacobs at No. 167 that the board grades a round light. A minor itch, scratched.
A straight-up fair deal on Delmar Glaze at slot 170, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Michael Barrett in No. 171 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A running back of that caliber at slot 178 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jared Wiley in pick No. 200 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
