They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Jimmy Horn Jr., 70 picks early at slot 187. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Whatever Shedeur Sanders becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Landing Fleming that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Travis Hunter at the 2nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A real need, handled.
Tyleik Williams at slot 42 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
TreVeyon Henderson slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 4 is lovely value for the running back. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Clay Webb at the 73rd pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on Elic Ayomanor at pick 75, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They let Tacario Davis come to them and pounced at the 109th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good price on Jabbar Muhammad in pick 113, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Connor Colby at par in the 145th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value said wait; Jimmy Horn Jr. in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Will Sheppard in pick No. 212 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Seth McLaughlin in slot 214, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taking Julian Fleming in Round 7, Pick 11 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
