Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Eagles, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
The Eagles indulged a want in Smith while a need in quarterback, running back and other spots stayed open. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get juice off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They read the board right and Kalen King was the payoff at pick 59. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They did well to land Javon Foster in Round 2, Pick 28, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Maason Smith adds a DT-EDGE and leaves quarterback, running back and other spots untouched.
Good price on Tyleik Williams in the 97th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Cedric Gray in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A quiet steal in No. 137: Khyree Jackson for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Malik Mustapha at slot 140 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Antwaun Powell-Ryland at pick 157 is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ainias Smith at No. 163 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Malachi Moore at par in the 164th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Tre Harris at Round 5, Pick 36 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Curtis Jacobs went about where he belonged in slot 201. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
No edge and no loss on Luke Reimer in pick No. 229; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
