The Patriots bet big and early on David Walker, 44 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.

The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Harmon pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Adding Trey Smith by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
