Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesC- FutureA
Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Schwesinger: B.

The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Carson Schwesinger, the No. 139 name on the board, sitting there at No. 220 like a gift left on the doorstep. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

The cost of the Batty reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Wyatt Milum
In slot 14 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau at pick No. 38 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick45 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
A reach for Alfred Collins in Round 2, Pick 13; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick69 Rnd3 Darien Porter
A reach on Darien Porter in No. 69; the board had better options right there. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick81 Rnd3 Tyler Warren
Circle this one: Tyler Warren at pick 81 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick105 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
A premium they did not need to pay, Cam Skattebo a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
Pick143 Rnd5 Jay Higgins
Taking Jay Higgins in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick173 Rnd5 Cody Simon
They robbed the room for Cody Simon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick192 Rnd6 Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier at pick No. 192 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick210 Rnd6 Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe in slot 210 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick217 Rnd7 Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers in the 217th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick220 Rnd7 Carson Schwesinger
Somehow Carson Schwesinger was still sitting there in the 220th pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick232 Rnd7 Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at Round 7, Pick 16 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick241 Rnd7 Tyler Batty
Tyler Batty at pick 241 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
