You can hear the double-takes from here. The Raiders took Joe Milton III at the 112th overall pick, roughly 52 spots before his name belonged.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Getting Mitchell where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in the 23rd overall pick with a little surplus value in Taliese Fuaga. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Quinyon Mitchell slid further than he should have, and pick 44 is lovely value for the cornerback. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Jackson Powers-Johnson went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 16. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Christian Haynes well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Payton Wilson at the 77th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Joe Milton III in slot 112 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reach on Jordan Travis in the 127th pick; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dallin Holker in slot 150. The roster fit checks out.
