Draft Grade — Bears
Overall C
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Bears got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C.

The tape said wait; the Bears did not. Pierce Quick went at Round 7, Pick 12, a good 106 picks before the board was ready. A weekend of give and take that grades a C.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Cowing at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Hit on Malik Nabers and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In No. 6 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Jer'Zhan Newton
In pick No. 9 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick75 Rnd3 Blake Corum
Blake Corum in Round 3, Pick 11 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick110 Rnd4 Jacob Cowing
Value with a capital V on Jacob Cowing in the 110th overall pick, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick127 Rnd4 James Williams
They paid sticker price for James Williams in pick 127, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick146 Rnd5 Grayson Murphy
Grayson Murphy in No. 146 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick186 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
They liked Jared Wiley enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 6 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick232 Rnd7 Pierce Quick
Pierce Quick at Round 7, Pick 12 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
