Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B+
ValueC- NeedB TradesA FutureA
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Stutsman: B+.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Danny Stutsman got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at the 221st overall pick. The bottom line is a respectable B+.

Nash has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
Josh Simmons at slot 13 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick39 Rnd2 Shemar Stewart
The board had cheaper options than Shemar Stewart at Round 2, Pick 7, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick70 Rnd3 Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra at the 70th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick84 Rnd3 Emery Jones Jr.
A wild overpay on Emery Jones Jr. in pick 84, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick106 Rnd4 Tez Johnson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tez Johnson at pick No. 106 is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick120 Rnd4 Nick Nash
They talked themselves into Nick Nash at the 120th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick141 Rnd5 Nohl Williams
Nohl Williams in No. 141 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick221 Rnd7 Danny Stutsman
The board fumbled Danny Stutsman all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick223 Rnd7 Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe in Round 7, Pick 9 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick235 Rnd7 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at slot 235 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick252 Rnd7 Cam Skattebo
You do not let a running back like Cam Skattebo reach the 252nd overall pick and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
