If confidence were a draft strategy, the Raiders would have aced it. Trevor Keegan at No. 113 is 49 spots clear of where he belonged. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Dixon falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on J.J. McCarthy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Michael Hall Jr. at Round 3, Pick 14 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trevor Keegan in the 113th overall pick, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Jarrian Jones at pick No. 148, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Johnny Dixon at pick 194. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in the 210th pick, where Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Garret Greenfield in pick 221 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Fair-plus on Michael Barrett, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
Good price on Frank Gore Jr. in slot 227, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
