Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Vikings never addressed safety, and it is the kind of gap that lingers.
Nix falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Jer'Zhan Newton at Round 1, Pick 11 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Bo Nix in the Round 2 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dominick Puni at the 108th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Cam Hart went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They took Cedric Johnson at par in the 148th pick, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ainias Smith in slot 163. It fills a real need, too.
They let Moose Muhammad III come to them and pounced at the 164th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on Jaylen Harrell in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Nathaniel Watson at No. 230, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
