The 49ers kept it disciplined and banked a B-. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the 49ers spent pick No. 254 on Jermayne Lole, a name most had 104 spots down the list. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Landing Carson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick35
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton in slot 35 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick63
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Nothing to complain about; Chris Braswell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick66
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick94
Rnd3
Darius Robinson
Value said wait; Darius Robinson in the 94th overall pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick98
Rnd3
Caelen Carson
Caelen Carson at pick No. 98 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick125
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams in pick 125 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick132
Rnd4
Beaux Limmer
They paid up for Beaux Limmer at No. 132 when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick176
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs at the 176th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick209
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
The board had cheaper options than Gabe Hall at pick No. 209, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick214
Rnd6
Jawhar Jordan
A straight-up fair deal on Jawhar Jordan at pick 214, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick215
Rnd6
Isaiah Neyor
Isaiah Neyor at the 215th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick249
Rnd7
Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick254
Rnd7
Jermayne Lole
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jermayne Lole well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
