FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the 49ers this weekend: B. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Trajan Jeffcoat, 52 picks early at pick 251. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The Tampa pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Spending an early pick on cornerback with running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In the 31st overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick64
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette in Round 2, Pick 32 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick94
Rnd3
T.J. Tampa
They barely believed it either: T.J. Tampa still on the board at No. 94. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick131
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
A surprising call. With running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent pick 131 on Jarrian Jones, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick132
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
They left a pile of value on the table to take Justin Eboigbe this early at the 132nd pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick133
Rnd4
Javon Foster
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Javon Foster at slot 133 is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick176
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini at pick 176 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick211
Rnd6
Nathaniel Watson
Fair-plus on Nathaniel Watson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick215
Rnd6
Tyler Owens
A reach for Tyler Owens in the 215th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick232
Rnd7
C.J. Hanson
A real head-scratcher, C.J. Hanson in the 232nd overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick251
Rnd7
Trajan Jeffcoat
A big swing on Trajan Jeffcoat at slot 251, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Pick252
Rnd7
De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark in the Round 7 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
