Dalaw DRAFTING FOR THECowboys

Draft Grade — Cowboys

FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Cowboys: B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Tyler Shough in the 247th overall pick. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The Stutsman steal is the beam this whole class leans on. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Luther Burden III
In pick No. 20 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Taking Omarion Hampton in the 44th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick51
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
A linebacker of that caliber at slot 51 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
Nice patience on Alfred Collins, who had no business lasting to pick 76. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick87
Rnd3
Luke Kandra
This one needs a full-page explanation: Luke Kandra in the Round 3 slot, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick148
Rnd5
Kevin Winston Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Kevin Winston Jr. at No. 148 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick168
Rnd5
Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman in No. 168 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick170
Rnd5
Brashard Smith
You do not let a running back like Brashard Smith reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick171
Rnd5
Gabe Jacas
They talked themselves into Gabe Jacas at the 171st overall pick, and the board did not agree. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick187
Rnd6
Phillip Webb
They reached a country mile for Phillip Webb at slot 187, and the board is aghast. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick209
Rnd6
J.C. Davis
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for J.C. Davis. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick247
Rnd7
Tyler Shough
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tyler Shough this early at the 247th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
