NFL DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

The Bears drew a line under the quarterback search with McCarthy: C. The Blake Corum selection is the head-turner. The Bears reached 77 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. The final tally is a middling C.
J.J. McCarthy gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
J.J. McCarthy
In pick 1 they get the arm they will build around, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Pick9
Rnd1
Blake Corum
In slot 9 they get an every-down engine for the run game, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk at the 75th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick109
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in the Round 4 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick121
Rnd4
Braiden McGregor
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Braiden McGregor well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
