Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB- TradesA+ FutureB
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Packers a B+.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Frank Crum in the 243rd overall pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That Ali pick is the receipt they will wave around later. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

The Colson pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Edgerrin Cooper
In pick 32 they get a three-down second-level presence, even if it was a touch early. More want than need.
Pick41 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
The board had Troy Fautanu higher than No. 41, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick58 Rnd2 Junior Colson
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 2 slot on Junior Colson with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots unsolved.
Pick89 Rnd3 Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
Good price on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in the 89th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick97 Rnd3 Cam Hart
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 97 with a little surplus value in Cam Hart. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick127 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent Round 4, Pick 27 on Cedric Gray, a linebacker they were not short of.
Pick152 Rnd5 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten at slot 152 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick168 Rnd5 Jase McClellan
Jase McClellan at pick No. 168 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick170 Rnd5 Jordan Jefferson
Jordan Jefferson at the Round 5 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick204 Rnd6 Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini in Round 6, Pick 29 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick243 Rnd7 Frank Crum
Frank Crum in No. 243 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick251 Rnd7 Rasheen Ali
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Rasheen Ali in the 251st pick, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
