Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
A passer of the future in Williams, and a D-, for the Bears.

The Bears torched the value chart for Julian Pearl, taking him 35 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In No. 1 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
Rome Odunze in the 9th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick43 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
They jumped the gun on Ja'Tavion Sanders, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick74 Rnd3 Christian Haynes
They took Christian Haynes at par in pick No. 74, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick75 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
The board had cheaper options than Sedrick Van Pran at the Round 3 slot, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick124 Rnd4 Will Shipley
Will Shipley in pick 124 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine at slot 127 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick146 Rnd5 Julian Pearl
Julian Pearl in pick 146 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Pick174 Rnd5 Jordan Jefferson
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Jefferson at the 174th pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
