The Packers cashed the board's mistake on Hadden: B-. The Packers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The Hadden pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They will need Zinter to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Packers paired the rookies with proven help, Tee Higgins leading the way.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In pick No. 18 they get a bendy edge with upside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson at No. 41 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick49
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at the 49th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick58
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
A straight-up fair deal on Kingsley Suamataia at slot 58, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick59
Rnd2
Mike Sainristil
They liked Mike Sainristil enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 59. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick88
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A conviction pick on Zak Zinter at Round 3, Pick 25 that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick91
Rnd3
Mekhi Wingo
They jumped the gun on Mekhi Wingo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick115
Rnd4
Maason Smith
Fair-plus on Maason Smith, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick123
Rnd4
Christian Jones
Christian Jones at slot 123 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick126
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at pick 126 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick169
Rnd5
AJ Barner
AJ Barner in Round 5, Pick 33 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick188
Rnd6
Kamal Hadden
Circle this one: Kamal Hadden at pick No. 188 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick257
Rnd7
Miyan Williams
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Miyan Williams. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
