Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Grand theft in pick No. 176: the 49ers steal Oladapo and grade out a B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Kitan Oladapo had no business being available in Round 6, Pick 1, and the 49ers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Reaching for McCormick left real value on the table behind him.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Jer'Zhan Newton
In No. 31 they get a load in the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63 Rnd2 Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk in slot 63 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick94 Rnd3 Andru Phillips
They paid up for Andru Phillips at pick 94 when waiting would have done the job. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick124 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick131 Rnd4 James Williams
James Williams at the 131st overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. It fills a real need, too.
Pick133 Rnd4 Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick at the 133rd pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick176 Rnd6 Kitan Oladapo
They barely believed it either: Kitan Oladapo still on the board at pick No. 176. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick211 Rnd6 Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at Round 6, Pick 36. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick215 Rnd6 Garret Greenfield
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Garret Greenfield. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick251 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
You do not let a running back like Frank Gore Jr. reach the 251st pick and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
