Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Steelers won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+.

The Steelers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.

The Limmer reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. With interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on DT-EDGE is the choice that costs them.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Jared Verse
Jared Verse is a better player than the 23rd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick48 Rnd2 Kalen King
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kalen King. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick55 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Fair-plus on Brian Thomas Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick80 Rnd3 Maason Smith
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Maason Smith at DT-EDGE with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots open.
Pick113 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray in slot 113 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
Pick116 Rnd4 James Williams
They paid a round early for James Williams in Round 4, Pick 16, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick121 Rnd4 Beaux Limmer
Beaux Limmer at the Round 4 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick194 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in pick No. 194 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick237 Rnd7 Reuben Fatheree II
They did well to land Reuben Fatheree II in pick 237, just ahead of his grade. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
