The Vikings went off the board in a big way for Isaiah Davis, 36 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A F, plain and simple.
They have staked the next five years on Drake Maye, which is the only story that really matters here. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through safety.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
There is no spinning it; the board won this weekend going away.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Drake Maye. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver. A real need, handled.
Roman Wilson in slot 42 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Leonard Taylor III in the 107th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wild overpay on Isaiah Davis in pick No. 128, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Thomas in the 156th pick, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Walter Rouse at par in pick 166, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid up for Nick Gargiulo at No. 187 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Keaton Bills in pick No. 230; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
